NOT TOO OLD TO STAND UP FOR MYSELF!

Published :July 2, 2024

When people offer you their seats and letters arrive about pension options, it becomes clear that society's perception of age is flawed. You can stand comfortably for a whole metro journey, and retirement is not on your mind. The system seems intent on categorizing you based on age.

This mentality needs to change. The greying population doesn't feel old, and many don't look old either. It's crucial to enable them to flourish and contribute. This begins with attitude. Rather than viewing older individuals as a burden, recognize them as valuable assets. Allow them to work longer; age doesn't dictate capability.

Create workforces that integrate older employees rather than segregating them. Older individuals still have dreams and ambitions; enabling them to pursue these benefits for society and the economy.

Supporting older individuals in retraining or upskilling can enhance their contributions. Many older people are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies and industries. By providing access to training programs tailored to their needs, we can help them stay relevant and valuable in the workforce.

Furthermore, fostering intergenerational collaboration can be incredibly beneficial. Younger workers can learn from the experience and wisdom of older colleagues, while older workers can benefit from the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas of younger generations. This collaboration not only enhances productivity but also creates a more inclusive and dynamic work environment and society.
