While a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is essential for health and longevity, some of the most recommended healthy fruits and vegetables may be at high risk for contamination.
Many conventionally grown crops are exposed to harmful pesticides and synthetic fertilizers, which can leave chemical residues that affect long-term health. Pesticides like glyphosate and chlorpyrifos, along with nitrate fertilizers, can pollute crops and water, posing risks like neurological damage and cancer.
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) releases an annual list of the most and least pesticide-contaminated produce, known as the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen, based on data from the USDA and FDA.
