The biggest challenge to anything in life, is always the voice in your own head. My ‘voice in the head’ was crying out loud with the questions:“I am at the peak of my corporate career, everything is going well, I seem to be doing a good job improving the bank’s as well as, my own bank balance. But why do I feel incomplete? What’s my 'purpose'? Why can’t I continue working for banks until I retire at 60 or beyond? What’s wrong with the status quo? Why would I want to give this all up to venture into the unknown?”
Here is how my wife, Monisha, and I approached the issue:
1. In the context of climbing the corporate ladder, how much is enough? Life is a basket of myriad experiences. Our basket needs to be fuller!
2. To grow, one must learn to start afresh. Typically one gets so caught up in the daily rhythm and the cocoon of security, that life falls into a predictable pattern until an involuntary black swan event comes along and disrupts everything. How about voluntarily disrupting yourself from time to time? Won’t that be a lot more interesting and spur growth in a completely different dimension?
3. As a couple we are lucky to share the same values and personal interests. Conservation and nature preservation are subjects very close to our hearts. Working together to make a difference, will add another facet to our relationship. So let’s do this together and grow!
It’s been an interesting and eventful journey for us together as a couple. We don’t know where it will eventually lead us and the fear of the unknown is very real! But we know for sure that this is the most natural path for us to take at this stage in our life.
